Capital Point Insurance (“we,” “us,” or “our”) is an independent insurance agency licensed in Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting the personal information you share with us. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, when we share it, your rights, and how to contact us with questions.
This policy applies to information collected through our website at www.capitalpointins.com and through our agency services.
Notice Under the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA)
As an insurance agency, Capital Point Insurance is a “financial institution” under the federal Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (15 U.S.C. § 6801 et seq.). We are required to provide this notice describing our privacy practices regarding nonpublic personal information (“NPI”) about our customers and former customers.
The information we collect. We collect NPI from the following sources:
- Information you provide on applications, quote requests, and other forms (name, address, phone, email, date of birth, Social Security number, household composition, employment, prior coverage, claims history, vehicle and property information).
- Information about your transactions with us, our affiliates, or others (premium payment history, policies, claims).
- Information from consumer reporting agencies (motor vehicle reports, credit-based insurance scores, prior loss history reports such as CLUE).
How we use it. We use NPI to evaluate your eligibility for coverage, present quotes, place and service insurance policies, process claims, and comply with legal obligations.
How we share it. We share NPI with insurance carriers to obtain quotes and place coverage on your behalf. We may also share NPI with service providers (such as IT vendors, premium finance companies, or claims administrators) under written agreements that restrict their use of the information. We do not sell your NPI to third parties for their marketing purposes. We do not share NPI with affiliates or non-affiliated third parties for joint marketing without your consent.
Your right to opt out. Under GLBA, you have the right to opt out of certain disclosures of your NPI. Because we do not share NPI with non-affiliated third parties for their own marketing purposes, no opt-out is required for our standard business practices. To request a copy of our full GLBA Privacy Notice or to update your preferences, contact us at info@capitalpointins.com or 301.468.9600.
